Viscoelastic behaviour of polymer melts in uniaxial extension flow

Abstract
An attempt to characterise the viscoelastic behaviour of polymer melts in extensional uniaxial flow is described, a modification made to a commercial rotational rheometer being used in order to investigate the behaviour of polyisobutylene (PIB) samples. Stress relaxation experiments were made in order to characterise the linear and non-linear viscoelastic regime in extension. The results show that it is possible to predict strain hardening observed in extension, as well as the relative importance of the viscous and elastic components on each of the viscoelastic regimes.

The Italian Society of Rheology (SIR) organizes every two years the Italian Rheology Conference, which is the meeting point of the National and International rheological community to promote knowledge and discuss research in the field of rheology. The Conference consists of keynote lectures, oral communications and posters on topics related to all the thematic areas of rheology.
