Abstract
The influence of particle concentration on rheological properties of CaCO3 suspensions in aqueous rhamsan matrices is investigated under steady and oscillatory shear conditions. At solid volume fraction between 0.35 and 0.55 a high level of particle stabilisation is achieved when 0.25 wt.% of Targon 1128 is added as a dispersant and when 0.25 wt.% of polysaccharide rhamsan is present in the disperse medium. A weak-gel structure of aqueous rhamsan system is partially damaged by particle addition, but the gel-like structure of aqueous rhamsan matrice still controlls the rheological properties in the low shear stress range. Another feature of the presence of polysaccharide seems to be additional sterical particle stabilisation. With increasing particle concentration the shear thickening behavior can be observed at high shear stress conditions where the hydrodynamic effects control the flow properties.

The Italian Society of Rheology (SIR) organizes every two years the Italian Rheology Conference, which is the meeting point of the National and International rheological community to promote knowledge and discuss research in the field of rheology. The Conference consists of keynote lectures, oral communications and posters on topics related to all the thematic areas of rheology.
The XIX edition will be held in the conference rooms of Plesso Belmeloro, in the city centre of Bologna, in June 16th-19th, 2026.
