Abstract
Fine powders of calcium carbonate are widely used for several industrial applications, as filler in paper and plastics industries or as flux in earthenware and pottery production in the ceramic field and new applications as a bioceramic material have been proposed.
The rheological properties of aqueous calcium carbonate suspensions were firstly studied in order to evaluate their processing ability by slip casting. These systems are generally unstable and prone to sedimentation, so that their rheological characterization can be performed only adopting standard reference procedures. The experimental results indicate marked shear thickening even at relatively low shear rates.

The Italian Society of Rheology (SIR) organizes every two years the Italian Rheology Conference, which is the meeting point of the National and International rheological community to promote knowledge and discuss research in the field of rheology. The Conference consists of keynote lectures, oral communications and posters on topics related to all the thematic areas of rheology. The XIX edition will be held in the conference rooms of Plesso Belmeloro, in the city centre of Bologna, in June 16th-19th, 2026.
