Abstract
It is presented a study of the influence of reactive polyurethane modifiers in the rheological properties of asphalt bitumen. Two reactive polyurethanes were considered: an MDI-based polyurethane of low molecular weight, and a TDI-based one. Mixtures of normal 60/70 bitumen with these reactive polyurethanes as well as with poly-butadiene are considered. It is shown that both reactive polyurethanes contribute to the stabilisation of the dispersion, and to a noticeable increase in the complex shear modulus G(w), namely in the elastic part G’(w), as compared e.g. to butadiene modifiers in a w/w basis. This effect is stronger for MDI-based polyurethane modifiers. Optical microscopy observations show that MDI modifiers produce more homogeneous morphologies.

The Italian Society of Rheology (SIR) organizes every two years the Italian Rheology Conference, which is the meeting point of the National and International rheological community to promote knowledge and discuss research in the field of rheology. The Conference consists of keynote lectures, oral communications and posters on topics related to all the thematic areas of rheology.
The XIX edition will be held in the conference rooms of Plesso Belmeloro, in the city centre of Bologna, in June 16th-19th, 2026.
