Abstract
Analytical rheology is the determination of the from rheological measurements. The determination of MWD from linear visco-elastic polymer structure data is of major interest and economic importance.
Since there currently exist many viable methods of determining the molecular weight distribution of flexible polymers such as gel permeation chromatography, light scattering intrinsic viscosity etc., it is important to appreciate what specific advantages, a MWD determination method based on rheological data provides. Virtually all conventional MWD methods are predicated on the ability to readily dissolve the polymer in a solvent at ambient temperatures. However, many polymers of commercial importance such as Teflon, polyethylene and polypropylene are only slightly soluble if at all in common solvents at ambient temperature.

The Italian Society of Rheology (SIR) organizes every two years the Italian Rheology Conference, which is the meeting point of the National and International rheological community to promote knowledge and discuss research in the field of rheology. The Conference consists of keynote lectures, oral communications and posters on topics related to all the thematic areas of rheology. The XIX edition will be held in the conference rooms of Plesso Belmeloro, in the city centre of Bologna, in June 16th-19th, 2026.
